Oompa,
Back in the 70's the elders were actually permitted to make up thier own public
talks as long as the Society's literature was used as the basis. I developed the
talk "Your heart is more than a pump."
I cited all of the Watchtowers data how the heart and brain are connected by
nerve tissue and all of the medical data where doctors have proof that when a
man received a womans heart that he would develope some female emotions.
I loved giving this talk and all of the congreagations that I gave the talk also liked
it because it was something different. I had congregations request this talk.
Then all of a suddend I get called into the back office at a circuit assembly and was
told that I need to stop giving this talk because now the Bible heart is figurative.
This was another flip flop. I still believe to this day that there are emotional
ties between the heart and mind. As proof, the Bible says to love God with your
whole soul, whole mind, whole heart. The soul is not figurative and the mind is
not figurative and the heart is not figurative. I could never understand what the
big deal was about the heart being figurative. Now when ever you see the word
heart in the Watchtower you see the word figurative in front of it. To this day
when elders talk about the heart they often touch their chest but why do that
if the Biblical heart is figurative?
